Vintage Celtics Walking Football – Mike’s Year Of Sports
Vintage Celtics Walking Football had a visitor on Monday 15th May. Mike Ellis, a teacher in Droylsden has started a blog on trying different sporting activities.
Mike’s mission in 2017 is to try a different sport every week for a year, as the title implies – Mike’s Year Of Sports. Click here to have a look at Mike’s various sporting activities.
At the time of writing Mike has tried 16 different activities. By my calculations Mike is a little behind in his endeavours as this is week 20 in the calendar but I am sure he will catch up before the year is out.
Here is Mike’s mission statement –
“Hello readers and welcome to my brand new weekly(ish) sports based blog! My aim is to play a different sport every week this year and write about it (semi amusingly) on here!
My rules are that I can only use each sport once and to try as many new things and challenges as I can but also write about sports I’ve done before! In the last year I’ve done quite a few things for the first time (still waiting to kiss a girl but fingers crossed) and enjoyed every one and thought it would be good to have an active year.
So from archery to Zumba, American football to another sport beginning with Z, I aim to do as many as I can
(dwarf tossing excluded – still won’t let me back to that pantomime).
Any suggestions are welcome!”
Mike’s latest venture into a new sport for him to participate in was walking football. Where better than Tameside’s original and most successful walking football club, Vintage Celtic?
So yesterday Mike made his debut in a session of Vintage Celtics Walking Football and I have to say looked a decent player, with some fine passing and movement. I don’t know your age Mike, I would guess early thirties, but we have a place booked for you in the competition squad when you reach 50!

If you think it’s about time you got some exercise and improved your well being, then come and join us, you will be made very welcome no matter what your ability or fitness level. Here is our training session information.
