Cheshire Walking Football September 2016 – Autumn League
The Cheshire Walking Football September 2016 session of the Autumn League proved to be a mixed bag for Vintage Celtic.
The normal format of Premier Division and Championship Division was replaced by just the Premier Division after the withdrawal of 3 teams from last seasons Premier Division, Helsby Old Boys, Neston Nomads and Silkmen Old Boys. 2 teams from the Championship Division also withdrew, Chester FC and Wirral Soccerloco, leaving just 7 teams to compete in the new look Premier Division.
Vintage Celtic’s first opponents in the Cheshire Walking Football September 2016 session were new boys Wigan Walkers who scored in the first minute. Despite having several chances to equalise Celtic just could not find the net.
The second fixture saw the Bluevints up against old foes Northgate Strollers. Celtic took the lead through a Keith Fowler goal. Pressure from Northgate finally paid off with an equaliser late in the game to make the final score 1-1.
Nantwich Barony, from last season’s Championship Division, were next up and although Celtic were in control and put Barony under constant pressure they were also too shot shy. Sustained pressure finally paid off thanks to a Dave Hardy goal and Celtic finished 1-0 winners.
1874 Northwich, another team from that division, were the opponents in the final game. The game was one way traffic with Celtic dominant but they just could not find the net despite having numerous chances and the game finished 0-0.
So it was played 4, won 1, drew 2 and lost 1 for Celtic. A total of 5 points on the day and a mid table position for the first Cheshire Walking Football September 2016 Autumn Season.
