Walking Football Tameside Glossop – Great Exercise

Walking Football Tameside Glossop is a website for people who want to play walking football or traditional small sided football in the Tameside and Glossop areas. Your local walking football team in these areas is Vintage Celtic WFC who are sponsored by Stalybridge Celtic FC, members of the Vanarama National League North.

The slowed down version of the beautiful game is for men over 50, who find it’s a great way to take exercise, meet new people and have a laugh at the same time. If you are under 50, then don’t think this isn’t for you. Although you will be ineligible for leagues and tournaments you can still attend our training sessions. Ladies are welcome too.

For those who played either competitively, or just for fun in their younger days and thought their footballing days were over, think again. We have guys 70 and over still enjoying playing either for fun, or in competitive walking football tournaments with Vintage Celtic WFC. Even if you only want to get some exercise and don’t want to play competitively then you will still get a warm welcome at our weekly sessions.

The obvious difference between walking football and conventional football is that there is no running. In walking football running is penalised by a free kick to the opposition. If you think you are too old and out of condition to partake in walking football, why not come along and take a look at one of the Vintage Celtic WFC training sessions. Walking Football Tameside Glossop sees many men in their late 60’s and early 70’s, some with new hips, new knees and heart by passes, enjoying the weekly training sessions and tournaments.

Walking football was devised some five years ago and is now one of the most popular activities for men over 50 years of age. The great thing about walking football from an age point of view is it brings back your youthful enthusiasm for the game. It can also be played indoors or outdoors. It gives an excellent cardiovascular workout and develops a more active lifestyle.

Inactivity is a killer and this excellent video by Dr Mike Evans sums up how important exercise is as a form of preventative medicine, especially for those of us getting on in years.

The beauty of walking football is that you can play at your own pace. Vintage Celtic WFC and Walking Football Tameside Glossop have many participants who have played football competitively in their younger days and love the thrill of doing so again but at a slower level.

Walking football is growing at a tremendous rate with many tournaments being organised and leagues being formed. Age is a state of mind and it is great to see the lads at the Walking Football Tameside Glossop sessions thinking they are back in their 20’s.

Walking football, as well as a good work out is extremely good fun and a good social occasion. Come along to one of the Vintage Celtic WFC Walking Football Tameside Glossop sessions and see for yourself how it can improve your health, fitness and lifestyle and maybe have a beer with us afterwards.
